What is Child & Teen Therapy?
Child and teen therapy provides a safe, supportive space for young people to express themselves, work through challenges, and discover their own strengths and resources. We meet children and adolescents where they are, using developmentally appropriate approaches.
Our Approach
Young people aren’t just “small adults”—they need approaches designed for their stage of development. At CFI, we use:
- Play therapy — For younger children, play is their natural language. Through games, art, and creative activities, children express feelings they may not have words for
- Narrative approaches — Helping young people see themselves as separate from their problems and discover their own strengths
- Family involvement — When appropriate, including parents and caregivers to support lasting change at home
Who Can Benefit?
Child and teen therapy can help with:
- Anxiety and worry
- Depression and mood changes
- Behavioral challenges
- School difficulties
- Making friends and social connection
- Family changes (divorce, new siblings, moves)
- Grief and loss
- Trauma
- Identity exploration
- Self-esteem
What to Expect
Sessions are typically 50 minutes. For younger children, sessions may include play, art, or other creative activities. Teen sessions look more like traditional talk therapy, though we remain flexible based on individual preferences. We create a warm, non-judgmental space where young people feel safe to be themselves.
