GETTING HERE

The venue

The Beckman Center of the National Academies

100 Academy Way, Irvine, CA 92617

(949) 721-2200

Three miles from John Wayne Airport, on the edge of the UC Irvine campus. Parking is free and there is no permit to sort out.

Flying in

John Wayne Airport is the easy answer. The alternates are here in case fares push you elsewhere.

John Wayne Airport (SNA)

Closest

Fly here. It is three miles from the venue with no freeway driving at all.

3 miles · about 8 min to the venue

  • Thomas F. Riley Terminal — Terminals A, B and C
  • Most hotels on this page run a free SNA shuttle
  • Rental car counters and rideshare pickup are both a short walk from baggage claim
18601 Airport Way, Santa Ana, CA 92707 (949) 252-5200 Details →

Long Beach Airport (LGB)

The best backup — small, quick to clear, and the closest alternate.

24 miles · about 31 min to the venue

  • Allow 40–60 minutes with traffic

Ontario International (ONT)

Useful for inland and eastern connections, but the corridor is unpredictable.

39 miles · about 56 min to the venue

  • Allow 1–1.5 hours with traffic

Los Angeles International (LAX)

Worth it only for international arrivals — the drive can swallow half a day.

42 miles · about 53 min to the venue

  • Allow 1.5–2 hours with traffic

Rental cars

Both counters are inside the terminal and the cars are a walk away — there is no rental-car shuttle bus to wait for. Neither agency offers a group rate at our size.

National Car Rental

Counter inside the terminal, cars in the garage across the street.

  • Open 6:00 AM – 11:30 PM daily. After-hours return yes, after-hours pickup no.
  • Customer service booth is on Level 0 of the parking garage across from Terminal B
  • Emerald Aisle keys-in-car is not offered here — airport rules mean you still stop at the booth
19051 Airport Way North, Santa Ana, CA 92707 (833) 679-2045 Book a car →

Enterprise Rent-A-Car

Counter on the Arrivals level, directly across from baggage claim.

  • Open 6:00 AM – 11:30 PM daily. After-hours return yes, after-hours pickup no.
  • Counter is near Terminal B; staff direct you to Parking Structure B2
18601 Airport Way, Santa Ana, CA 92707 (833) 659-1917 Book a car →

Rideshare

Read this before you land — the pickup spot catches people out.

Uber & Lyft

Pickup is not curbside — you have to go up to Level 3 of the parking structure.

$15–$28 to the venue

  • Terminal A → Parking Structure A2, Level 3
  • Terminal B → Parking Structure B2, Level 3
  • Terminal C → Terminal C structure, upper level
  • Exit either side of baggage claim, follow the rideshare signs, cross to the structure and take the elevator up. Request the ride once you are on Level 3.
  • Drop-off is curbside on the Departures level
  • A small airport surcharge applies

Parking

The happiest sentence on this page.

Parking at the Beckman Center

Free, no permit required, and more than 270 spaces.

  • Accessible spaces are available near the entrance
  • From Campus Drive: right on University Drive, left at California Avenue, right onto Academy Way. The Beckman Center is on your right.

Public transit

Buses & Metrolink

We would not plan on it. Here is why, so you can decide for yourself.

  • The only bus serving the airport, OCTA Route 76, does not run on weekends — and the salon runs through Saturday
  • Route 473 is the one bus that reaches UCI, runs weekday commute hours only, and stops more than a mile short of the venue
  • The nearest Metrolink stations are all roughly ten miles from the airport with no direct connection
